Severn Stars’ new signings Phumza Maweni and Maryka Holtzhausen both represented there native South Africa at the Fast5 netball world series last weekend. The signings were announced the day before the tournament took place and will bolster both the Stars’ attacking and defending capabilities.

Although South Africa finished fifth, there are many positives the Stars can hone in on. Maweni highlighted her own defensive game, making the most intercepts and deflections for the South African’s. Defending is an area of the Severn Stars’ game which Maweni can improve with her own defensive mind-set and imposing physique. Holtzhausen on the other hand was South Africa’s second highest scorer at the tournament and with her dynamic movement will provide a new channel for the Stars to press in their upcoming season.

With over 100 days to go until the Vitality super league kicks off, we will keep a close eye on who else the Stars can bring in to the club, maybe one of the winning England squad members!
