Some of Gloucestershire’s best sports teams and individuals will be celebrated at the annual Sports Awards evening hosted by the Cheltenham Racecourse in the prestigious Gold Cup Suite on Thursday.
It’s been a successful year for Gloucestershire sports. Gloucester Rugby and Hartpury RFC have enjoyed success in Europe and getting in to the Championship respectively, Forest Green Rovers were promoted to the Football League and the University of Gloucestershire’s sports teams are showing promise.
As well as sports teams, there are individual athletes up for awards. Most notably is a Marathon runner who has ran 800 official marathons, currently holds six world records and has raised over £2500 for charity and isn’t even an athlete by profession.
Steve Edwards has been running marathons since 1981 and has to fit training and competitions in around his job in IT.
