Joe Morrell will miss Cheltenham Town’s next two fixtures as he will join up with Wales’ Under 21 side for their European Championship qualifiers against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Romania.

The midfielder who has been almost ever present since his loan move to the side from Bristol City has earned his second call-up to the team after impressing heavily for Gary Johnson’s side this season.

Morrell will now miss both of Cheltenham Towns games against Newport County in the Checkatrade Trophy, a match described as a dead rubber with both sides already out of the competition. Johnson has however stressed how important the game will be for his team saying “we get a chance quickly to get this defeat (to Maidstone) out of our system.”

Cheltenham were expected to rotate their squad for the cup match but would have been looking to include Morrell when they visit high-flying Luton Town in the League on Saturday. Johnson will now have to shuffle his pack in order to deal with the loss of one of their most creative players for the next two matches.

Tickets for both matches are available on Cheltenham Towns website.
