Gloucestershire Annual Sports Awards 2017

Thursday night saw the gathering of sports stars from across the county at Cheltenham Racecourse for the Gloucestershire Sports Awards.

From grassroots to Kingsholm, the night celebrated achievement from a huge range of sports. The night started with the Community club of the Year and of course ended with the Gloucestershire Sports Personality of the Year, the winner selected from one of the previous winners of the other categories on the night.

 

The night was hosted by John Inverdale (Pictured).

 

Community Club of the Year:

  • Almost Athletes
  • Cheltenham Powerchair FC (Winner)
  • Twekesbury Triathalon Club

 

Junior Team of the Year:

  • Hartpury College Junior Football Team Youth (Winner)
  • Deer Park Archers Junior Ladies
  • Old Patesians Youth

 

Senior Team of the Year:

  • Hartpury RFC (Winner)
  • University of Gloucestershire Women’s Hockey Team
  • Forest Green Rovers

 

Coach of the Year:

  • Mark Cornwell – Hartpury Coach
  • Daisy Manuel – Cheltenham Powerchair FC Coach
  • Jon Pitman – Boxing Coach (Winner)

 

Outstanding Services to Sport in Gloucestershire:

  • Paul Baker – Cheltenham Town Owner (Winner)
  • Sally Berry – Founder of Old Chelts Netball Club
  • Trevor Large – Co-founder of Rugby United

Young Sports Player of the Year:

  • Harry Bloomfield – Squash Player
  • Lucy Mason – Archer for GB Youth (Winner)
  • Joel Townley – Triple Jumper
  • Sophie Yorke – Sprinter

 

Senior Sports Player of the Year:

  • Sarah Bern – England Rugby Player (Winner)
  • Megan Brazil – Captain of University of Gloucestershire Women’s Hockey Team
  • Steve Edwards – Marathon World Record Holder for most marathons in fastest average time (800)

 

Disability Sports Performer of the Year:

  • Piers Gilliver – Team GB Paralympian (Winner)
  • Alex Hume – Tennis Player
  • Phoebe Pine – Archer

 

Professional Sports Personality of the Year:

  • Akeem Ennis-Brown – Boxer (Winner)
  • Piers Gilliver – Team GB Paralympian
  • Ross Moriarty – Gloucester/Wales Rugby

 

Sports Personality of the Year:

  • Jon Pitman (Winner)
