Cinderford Rugby picked up a bonus point win over mid-table side Barnstaple despite being an inspired performance from the away side.
The home team started the match in traditionally strong fashion and James Moffat put them ahead after only a few minutes with a penalty kick. Barnstaple swiftly hit back however when Will Topps scored a brilliant try which was converted by Jordan Petherbridge. The lead was quickly regained though when the referee awarded a penalty try to Cinderford. The home side furthered their lead when Liam Hemming stepped through the defensive line to score Cinderford’s second try of the game to make the score 17-7.
Barnstaple scored twice early in the second half and took the lead thanks to a penalty try awarded for deliberate offside and an unconverted try by pacey winger Luke Berry. Cinderford regained control with a third try when prop Tim Brockett bundled his way over the line. Hemming slotted the conversion and added a further three points after a high tackle gave the home side a penalty.
Cinderford had to defend their line valiantly to prevent Barnstaple scoring again, and their persistence made worth when Harry Hone picked the ball from the back of a scrum to score the bonus point try and make the score 32-19.
Cinderford’s next game is on the November 25th away against Wimbledon.
