Championship football team Cardiff City are preparing a one million-pound offer for Forest Green Rovers striker, Christian Doidge.
The Welshman has had a promising season so far, scoring 17 goals for Rovers, who are currently in the midst of a relegation battle, as they currently sit 24th in League Two.
After helping Forest Green gain promotion last season, thanks to a 27-goal tally, there are several teams who are hoping to snatch the Newport-born target away from his current Gloucestershire side, however, as it stands Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City are the set favourites to make the deal
In the summer of 2016 Doidge joined Rovers from Dagenham and Redbridge, and was released by Southampton and Bristol Rovers in his early years of football.
Forest Green may notice a continued struggle should they let go of the 25-year-old, and with this being their first promotion to the football league, they are not going to want to let it slip through their fingers by entering immediate relegation, back into the National League.
Whilst in his teenage years, Doidge pursued a career with South Wales Police, stepping away from football for a short time. In this time, he also represented the Welsh national basketball side and played in the European Championships.
In addition to Doidge’ potential transfer, Rovers have also expressed that attacking midfielder Luke James and goalkeeper Sam Russell can leave the club if they wish to.
Forest Green have brought in four new players during the transfer window; Dayle Grubb, Alex Whittle, Gavin Gunning and Farrend Rawson.
With Doidge set to leave in the coming weeks, Rovers will need to keep their focus to be within any chance of climbing out their residing position in the relegation zone.
The Green Devils will take on Port Vale at the New Lawn tomorrow at 3pm.
