Zlatan to LA? Giroud to Chelsea? – Top 5 transfer rumours of the day

Here's the best of this morning's paper talk...

Zlatan’s American Dream

Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic looks set to be the newest MLS foreign import, as he edges ever-closer to a move to LA Galaxy. The 36-year-old suffered a setback at the end of December, following a brief spell back in the side after suffering a relapse on his knee in April last year. United’s high-profile acquisition of Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez only looks to have reduced the Swede’s potential playing time, going into the final few months of the season. His illustrious career may well be coming to its glamorous close. Giroud the go-to guy for Conte?

31-year-old Olivier Giroud is assessing his options carefully as he mulls over a potential move to London rivals Chelsea. The Frenchman has fallen out of favour under Arsene Wenger, with his playing time mostly limited to cup competitions and the Europa League. The Arsenal forward has been frustrated by his lack of appearances, and is seriously considering a move to ensure he retains a starting place at the 2018 World Cup. However, the £35 million asking price being demanded may stump Chelsea from making a bid. (Mail)

Brave Benitez bid for Jorgensen

Newcastle will have to break their transfer record if they are to secure the services of Feyenoord talisman Nicolai Jorgensen. The 27-year-old spent much of his career in his native Denmark before making the move to the Eredivisie in 2016, netting a stellar 21-goal tally on the way to helping De Kuip to their first Dutch title since 1999. His current goal every other game ratio has done much to quench the interest of Toon boss Rafa Benitez, whose own future remains in doubt and has been critical of the club’s transfer policy in recent weeks. The Magpies all-time record signing is Michael Owen at £15 million, although the deal was over 12 years ago. (Chronicle)

Deeney decision imminent

Watford striker Troy Deeney is on the verge of making an £18 million move back to the Midlands, with Alan Pardew’s West Bromwich Albion the keen party. The 29-year-old, who also captains the club, has been well out of favour since the early months of the season, although with Marco Silva’s sudden departure, finds himself back in consideration under new Hornets boss Javi Gracia. Birmingham-born Deeney was left out of Saurday’s FA Cup exit at Southampton and could leave before the weekend. (Birmingham Mail)

Ayew hoping for late Swansea switch

Ghanaian frontman Andre Ayew is confident that he can finalise an £18 million move back to Swansea before the window shuts on Thursday. The 28-year-old signed for current outfit West Ham back in the summer of 2016 for an acrimonious fee of over £20 million. Ayew suffered a major injury, just weeks after signing for the Hammers, and never really settled into life in West London. Swansea are looking to bolster their squad at all costs, with the club still clinging onto life in the Premier League and remain optimistic after an encouraging start from new manager Carlos Carvahal.
