Gloucester Fans React To Win Over Castres

Gloucester secured a 19-14 victory over Castres in their opening game of the Heineken European Champions Cup.

A number of Cherry and White fans took to social media to express their delight in their team’s opening win on their return to Champions Cup duty.

Ten thousands fans braved the horrid weather conditions to head to Kingsholm and watch their team compete in the tournament for the first time in five years. They not only had to deal with the lashing rain, but also some controversial decision by referee Marius Mitrea.

An early try by Tom Marshall was disallowed by the referee after Fraser Balmain was deemed to have cleared out a player who hadn’t been involved in the ruck. Gloucester’s scrum-half Callum Braley scored the first try of the match soon after when Danny Cipriani delivered an amazing flat pass.

Cipriani impressed in the wet playing conditions, by kicking 14 points off the tee in front of England head coach Eddie Jones, who names his autumn international squad on Thursday. The 30-year-old will be hoping for a recall to the side after being left out of England’s training squad in Bristol last month.

Gloucester’s win was the first win for an English club in the opening weekend of the competition and also saw them finish top of their Pool. Here are some of the fans reaction to the game…

Gloucester face Munster away on Saturday in Round 2 of the competition.
