OPINION: England’s ones to watch after whitewash T20 series victory

England completed a 3-0 whitewash victory against the West Indies in the T20 series last night, winning by eight wickets and they certainly looked impressive.

With the impressive performances, especially from the bowlers, there’s a lot more competition for places for the Cricket World Cup which begins in May.

The stand out players:

Yorkshire all-rounder, David Willey, took four wickets for just seven runs, which is the second best figures for England in a T20 international.

Chris Jordan has been a mainstay of the T20 team because of his good bowling and incredible agility in the field. His catching ability is outstanding. You don’t see him dropping many, that’s for sure.

Both of these players are staking their claim to be involved in the squad for the World Cup, especially if any of the mainstay ODI (One-Day International) bowlers get injured.

Another player who has cemented his claim is fast bowler Mark Wood, who’s been in and out of the ODI squad with injury.

Wood looked good in the last test and bowled speeds of 92 mph. He also played in the recent ODI series and seemed to be back to his best. He only played in the T20 yesterday and took three wickets for nine runs.

Sam Billings also gave some brilliant performances during the T20 series. Friday’s explosive innings was his highlight where he scored 87 off 47 balls.

Billings has been in and around the ODI squad for a while now, but has only been picked if any injuries occur to any of the squad.

This is good news heading into a very busy summer for England and with a lot of high hopes, expectation from being World Cup favourites and an Ashes series on the way.

It’s going to be a hectic summer of cricket.
